Cybersecurity is Holistic

Every day we hear news of a new attack or breach. This year is not half over, and we have had significant attacks unfold from Solar Winds to Colonial Pipeline and recently learned ransomware also attacked JBS, a global meatpacking company. First, however, let’s take a few deep breathes and help you get “cybersecurity fit.”
Cyber is a holistic process - Just like if you have diabetes, a doctor will not just prescribe insulin but provide a healthy diet and stress relievers like exercise and sleep to help combat. The same is with cybersecurity; it is a combination of people, processes, and technology. All three come together to lower your risks of cyberattack or damage in the event it happens.
The holistic process starts with a diagnostic, like your doctor giving you a checkup. To know your blood sugar levels are high, they must draw blood, take samples to determine where you stand. The same in cybersecurity, before you purchase that tech or training, you must find out where you stand. Again, a diagnostic is needed to let you know where you stand. Are you weak in any areas, and where should you spend your time and money to “get better?”
A diagnostic is so critical. We’ve been in the cyber business for 20 years and watched many people buy tech without a clear understanding of where they stand. A lot of money and heartache because just like you don’t go online and purchase insulin based on a hunch or because a pharmaceutical company said it works, the same applies in cybersecurity.  You need to have the correct information to proceed.
Take the time to know where you stand and get a proper diagnosis.
At Covenant, we have developed a free diagnostic tool called the Cyber Risk Portal to give you a holistic view of your cybersecurity and provide a clear way forward. So, no wasted time and money to lower your risk for ransomware or any other hacking attempt that could leave you out of business.
We invite you to start now and learn where you stand.

Section four of the "Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity" introduced a lot of people in tech to the concept of a “Software Supply Chain” and securing it. If you make software and ever hope to sell it to one or more federal agencies, you have to pay attention to this. Even if you never plan to sell to a government, understanding your Software Supply Chain and

The Insider threat in cybersecurity is a tricky subject. We often don't want to approach it because, as the name says, this is someone we have given our trust to that frankly can't be trusted. However, this week we talk about cybersecurity from this angle. The internet village we all share requires us to share and trust in ways we never expected.

I had planned to share a wonderfully done newsletter article but opted to share from the heart. I've been truly blessed and honored to be in the security community for over 20 years and have many colleagues and friends who help secure our physical and virtual world. While I admit I love the work from home and the ability to order groceries online, I wouldn't say I like watching children bullied, the elderly targeted and pensions stolen, charities losing donations, and companies going out of business due to the insecurity of our global internet village. It was out of this place that I realized that we needed to reignite a fundamental truth that "We Are One" always connected.
